8 symptoms of visual stress

Continued exposure to the screens of electronic devices, UV rays of the sun and environmental toxins is the main cause of the increase in cases of visual stress or eye strain.

This condition is more common among the population,  it is characterized by a nagging feeling of eye fatigue,  accompanied by blurred vision, difficulty in maintaining concentration and, in some cases, irritation.

The 80% of the people working at the computer suffers, at least once, and often those who strive sight in dark locations.

The most worrying aspect is that many people ignore the symptoms of visual stress, and despite the hassle, do not resort to a suitable treatment and appropriate.

It is essential, therefore, to know in what way this condition is manifested from its early stages  and, once identified, consult a specialist.

1. Dry Eyes

The dry eye is a troublesome symptom which, if untreated, can cause pain and difficulty of sight.

It is produced due to the lack of tear fluid, which has the task of protecting the eyes and lubricate them. This causes an unpleasant sensation of itching and irritation,  like when you have something in the eye.

Although it is a common symptom of exposure to contaminated environment, it may be due to an excessive effort due to the stress of view.

2. Itchy eyes

The itching sensation in the eyes is a reaction that shows us the decreased production of tears.

It is usually accompanied by irritation of the lacrimal canal and discomfort that increases when you perform activities that involve an effort of view.

3. Nausea

In these cases, these symptoms are accompanied by confusion and severe headaches, as well as paleness and weakness of the limbs.

4. Tearing

While in some cases of visual stress occurs dryness, there are those who has a constant watery, due to the effort made by the eyes.

This symptom is produced due to the presence of particles and substances in the surrounding environment that accumulate on the surface of the eye, although sometimes indicate a problem at the sight.

You should always consult a specialist to analyze the source and figure out if the problem is due to stress, a trauma or a visual pathology.

5. Migraine

The severe headache can be a clear signal stress and eye fatigue.

This reaction is produced due to the tension and circulatory problems that, even if you do not notice, are produced due to the excessive work.

In these cases it is essential to analyze the presence of other symptoms, as this problem may be due to other reasons.

6. Hypersensitivity to light

People who spend too many hours in front of computers are used to suffer from frequent episodes of hypersensitivity to light.

This is because the stress suffered by the eyes is caused by the light of the screens,  which affect circulation and lubricating ability.

It is also a problem known as photophobia and, in addition to stress, can be caused by trauma to the cornea.

7. Conjunctivitis

Spending too many hours in front of screens of electronic devices increases the risk of developing conjunctivitis.

This problem occurs when the conjunctiva is inflamed, in this case for over-work to which the eyes are subjected.

However, it is worth stating that in most cases occurs due to viruses, bacteria and environmental toxins.

8. Blurred vision

The blurred vision and difficulty in recognizing the little details are visual stress indicator, as well as refractive disorders and blindness.

When they suffer, you should consult a specialist, because it is a start of the most important visual signal illness.

Most of the time is accompanied by headache, fatigue and other symptoms mentioned before.

Recommendations and Conclusions

  • To avoid the symptoms of visual stress, it is important to take breaks during the day  and, if possible, to achieve different visual exercises.
  • You should also sleep well, because the rest is critical to eye health.
  • The ideal would be to create exams and regular visits. Do not forget that, sometimes, the frequency of this problem could be a symptom of other diseases.
