Simple ways you can support your back at work.

Our backs are incredibly important to our overall health as they support our spinal column and our nervous systems. The health of our back can be affected by our posture, the way that we move and how long we spend sitting during the day. All of these aspects can, of course, be affected by the work that we do and the lifestyle that we lead. There are some simple ways to support your back whilst at work and here are just a few of them for you to consider.

Posture – throughout the day, as you spend more time sitting at your desk, you will find that your posture starts to slip. Many of us will start to develop hunched shoulders, a rounded back, and a slumped posture as the day wears on. This is where stress and strain can start to appear, and over a long period of time, this can lead to further issues with your back, neck and shoulders. You can correct this by trying to become aware of when you are slouching in your chair and correcting your posture. You can also set a reminder for every hour to encourage you to change your position.

Furniture – the furniture that you use will have an impact on your back. Sitting at a dining room table is not going to provide you with the support that you need for your back. These tables are also not set up to make sure that your computer equipment is aligned at the optimum height for you to work safely. It is essential that you instead source your desks from a Gloucester Office Furniture company such as www.severnfurnishing.co.uk/. These will all be designed to ensure that you are sitting correctly throughout your day.

Movement – sitting in a static position for long periods of time puts pressure on various parts of the body. The back, in particular, is affected by a sedentary lifestyle. One of the best ways to counteract this is to ensure that you are regularly moving around and stretching throughout the day. Simply taking a few moments every hour to stretch out your back, neck, and shoulders will help to support your overall back health. A quick walk during your lunch break will help to reset your posture and alleviate any tension that has built up in your muscles and joints.
